Anime Overview:

"Rising of the Shield Hero" is an anime adaptation based on Aiya KyΕ«'s manga series, originally published in Seinen Weekly. Scripted by Keigo Koyonagi, the anime spans three seasons and encompasses 24 manga volumes.

My Experience:

In 2019, I dove into "Rising of the Shield Hero" with minimal expectations, only to be pleasantly surprised by its quality. The story introduces us to the Shield Hero, one of four Cardinal Heroes in the anime, alongside the Spear, Sword, and Bow Heroes. Despite being well-respected, the Shield Hero faces prejudice for being a defense-oriented hero, deemed ineffective in battle. Summoned from modern-day Japan, each hero is tasked with combating waves of monsters, transported to the wave's location during occurrences, with the freedom to train in between.

Plot Twist:

The Shield Hero's journey takes an unexpected turn when, despite being initially chosen by the first princess for an expedition, he becomes the victim of a sinister scheme. Accused of a crime he did not commit, he loses his allowance and faces public hatred, branded as a seducer. Unbeknownst to him, this betrayal is orchestrated by the king and his conniving daughter. The anime unfolds as the Shield Hero embarks on a quest to reclaim what was unjustly taken from him.

Standout Moments:

There are two impactful scenes that linger in my memory. The first occurs after the protagonist loses his self-esteem post-interrogation in the palace. Walking through the main gate into the alley, he faces the harsh reality. The second moment follows his journey to prove his worth, walking the same alley with newfound respect. These scenes encapsulate the character's growth and make for compelling storytelling.

Recommendation:

I highly recommend binging "Rising of the Shield Hero" for its captivating plot and adventurous take on the isekai genre, set in a medieval period. The anime beautifully combines elements of fantasy and drama, making it a worthwhile watch for anime enthusiasts.
