A Review of Kannada movie "TOBY" | Silver screen surge

"Unveiling the Enigma: A Tale of Good, Bad, and the Unexpected"

Toby, played by Raj B Shetty, is a simple man in a village who gets involved in shady activities at the request of the village chief, Ananda. However, when Ananda messes with Toby's cherished possession, Jenny, a different side of Toby emerges.

The story unfolds as Sampath, a new station inspector, arrives in the village. Jenny seeks help to find her missing father, Toby. As Sampath investigates, he discovers Toby's unique personality, referred to by some as a 'devil' and by others as a naive angel. The movie explores whether Toby can be both good and bad or if there's more to his character.

Toby's background reveals he's an abandoned child who learned to survive in a tough world. Despite losing his voice, he finds a supportive community with Father Iglesias, Damodara, Jenny, and Savitri. Ananda disrupts Toby's content life, setting the stage for a conflict.

The film's strength lies in the performances, especially Raj B Shetty's powerful portrayal of Toby without any dialogue. Chaitra impresses as Jenny, providing a strong performance. The cinematography by Praveen Shriyan adds depth, capturing both the beauty and harshness of Toby's life. The music by Midhun Mukundan, although not released, complements the film well.

Despite its strengths, Toby lacks depth in its scenes and suffers from a slow-paced narrative. The movie, with a mix of genres, lacks surprises and has a predictable storyline. The climax is ordinary, failing to deliver a satisfying conclusion.

In conclusion, Toby offers a good experience with strong performances, but its shortcomings, including a slow pace and predictability, may leave viewers wanting more. Fans of Garuda Gamana may also known who is Raj B shetty.
